Get to Know Patrick

Meet the Photographer

The eyes behind the viewfinder.

Greetings, My name is Patrick Murphy II

My story starts on the front porch of our annual family Thanksgiving gathering in Spring City, Tennessee – listening to my Uncle Carlos spin webs about his youth. The timeless human image – an older man guiding the pack of youngsters, slack-jawed and enthralled by his illustrious tales and lessons, is the beginning of my lifelong enthusiasm for quality storytelling. Combine that with my Dad, Patrick Sr., and his education as a Journalist, and you could say my path was paved early.

I cut my teeth with a Canon Rebel XSI while trekking the labyrinth of trail systems that weave along the ridgelines of the New River Valley. After earning my Associate Degree from New River for Communication, I attended Virginia Tech as a student of Multimedia Journalism. My focus as a creative started with my love of print writing, which serves to inform the composition of my visual stories and photos. Behind every subject in frame, there is a story to be told.

It’s my job to find it.

My Mission

When I was a kid, there was a magic in the air when I watched my Mom, Syd, pull out the photo Albums (yes, the physical binders!). Every slip of glossy paper that turned over in her hand revealed a key to unlock a memory. A photo print of memories gone by has a way of bringing you back to the moment, assaulting your senses with the sounds, smells, and smiles of those with whom you shared a moment memorialized. A slice of life, cut from the tapestry of time to be enjoyed over and over again, is the promise I make to you.
